Dirk Poor

Room at the Table

Make room for people before they ever ask.

Dirk Poor sitting at the crossroads, looking thoughtfully at the hoop, streetlight and spool — Somebody was out there leaving good things behind. Dirk wanted them to know they were welcome.

Dirk Poor digging through a big pile of scrap, searching carefully — So he went digging through the scrap for the right pieces.

Dirk Poor standing proudly beside five items lined up on the ground — An old crate. A paint bucket. A tire. A milk crate. A cinder block.

Dirk Poor rolling a tire down the street toward the crossroads, working hard — One by one, he dragged them all the way to the crossroads.

Dirk Poor setting the last item in place, completing a circle of five mismatched seats around the spool — He set them in a circle around the spool.

Dirk Poor sitting on the spool in the middle of the circle of five empty seats at sunset, smiling — He didn't know who they were for yet. He just wanted there to be room when they came.

Make room for people before they ever ask.

One more run.
