Dirk Poor

The Glow

Something beautiful is worth going out of your way for.

Dirk Poor on the spool at night, looking across the dark town at a faint colorful glow far away — One night, from the crossroads, Dirk noticed something across town: a soft glow where the old entertainment strip had been dark for years.

Dirk Poor riding his skateboard alone down a long, dark, quiet street at night — The way there was long and dark. He went anyway.

Dirk Poor slowing on his skateboard, looking at roller-skate tracks in the dust leading toward the glow — Roller-skate tracks led him the last few blocks.

Dirk Poor standing small before a big storefront wall glowing with color made from bottle caps, glass and scrap — At the end of the street, an old wall glowed with color, made from bottle caps, glass and scrap.

Close on Dirk Poor's face lit by the colorful glow, amazed — Dirk just stood there. He hadn't known the dead strip could ever look like that.

Dirk Poor riding home slowly down the dark street, looking back over his shoulder at the glow — He rode home slow, looking back the whole way.

Something beautiful is worth going out of your way for.

One more run.
