Dirk Poor

The Storm

Keep your word, even when it's raining.

Dirk Poor sitting on the spool at the crossroads under the streetlight, looking determined — Dirk had made himself one promise: whatever happened, the spool at the crossroads stayed standing.

Dark storm clouds and heavy rain rolling over the rooftops as Dirk Poor watches from a doorway — Then the biggest storm of the year rolled into Fortune Falls.

Dirk Poor running through pouring rain toward the crossroads, board under his arm — He grabbed his board and ran out into it.

Dirk Poor arriving in the rain at the spool, already tied down with ropes staked into the ground — When he got there, the spool was already tied down. Ropes on every side, staked into the ground.

Dirk Poor's hand on a rope with neat doubled knots in the rain — The knots were perfect. Tight, careful, tied twice. Somebody had a plan.

Dirk Poor sitting against the tied-down spool, soaked, as the storm breaks and light shows through the clouds — Dirk stayed anyway, holding on until the storm passed. A promise is a promise.

Keep your word, even when it's raining.

One more run.
